Best Applied Paper in 2005 – STS AIChE
Dr. Michael O. Nutt (V.P., New Product Development for Custom Catalytic Solutions), Dr. Michael S. Wong (Assistant Professor at Rice University), and Dr. Joseph B. Hughes (Professor at Georgia Tech) were recently awarded the Best Applied Paper in 2005 from the South Texas Section of AIChE for the paper titled “Designing Pd-on-Au Bimetallic Nanoparticle Catalysts for Trichloroethene Hydrodechlorination” published in Environmental Science & Technology (Vol. 39, 1346-1353, 2005). This publication focused on their initial discovery of a 100 times increase in TCE hydrodechlorination rates (on a per gram Pd basis) over conventionally used 1wt% Pd/Al2O3 by supporting a submonolayer coverage of palladium (Pd) on gold (Au) nanoparticles (NPs). Further work on this topic has been published in Applied Catalysis B: Environmental (Vol. 69, 115-125, 2006) titled “Improving Pd-on-Au Bimetallic Nanoparticle Catalysts for Trichloroethene Hydrodechlorination.”
